Active youth team encouraged citizens in Estonia’s Kohtla-Järve to take part in European elections

In the run-up to the European elections, Estonian BELC member, Anton Dijev - together with an active youth team - decided to take the initiative and organise an information campaign in their town of Kohtla-Järve. They took to the streets to distribute material, calling on residents to exercise their civic duty and vote in the upcoming European elections. 

The feedback from local residents was very positive. Many people expressed their gratitude to young people for their commitment. Some said that they were previously indifferent to the elections but are now seriously considering casting their vote. The campaign helped raise awareness and motivate people to get involved, realising that their voice counts and can bring about positive changes. 

Initiatives like this show the importance of active citizenship and how young people can play a decisive role in promoting democracy. The efforts of Anton Dijev and his team certainly helped to increase voter turnout and showed that even in small towns, civic initiatives can have significant impact.
