Austrian member of the EU Local Councillors network featured in local media

At the invitation of the European Commission, EU Local Councillors network member Birgit Becker from the municipality of Austria’s St. Pölten travelled to Brussels for the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWR). As part of a workshop, Ms Becker impressed international participants with her efforts of communicating European issues in her hometown. She reported on her involvement at the traditional Kirtag in St. Georgen, where she organised an EU information stand in April 2024. “People want to understand the direction in which the European Union, my country, my region and my city are developing within the EU,” she emphasized, underlining the central role that local initiatives play in the understanding and acceptance of European issues.

Ms. Becker's contribution generated interest not only in Brussels at EWR, but also in her home community as St. Pölten konkret reported on Becker's work in its November issue (page 42).

The workshop is an inspiring example of how regional events can be used to attract people to European issues in a creative and appealing way.
