Austrian BELC member Birgit Becker set up an EU stand at the Kirtag in St. Georgen at the end of April and drew visitors' attention to the upcoming European elections. The Kirtag in St. Georgen is an annual traditional event that has been taking place since 1947. This year, over 2,000 visitors attended and enjoyed the varied programme, music and catering. The local councillor set an important mission: emphasising the future of the European Union through the elections as part of a traditional and popular local event.
There was a great deal of interest in the EU stand: around 250 people turned up throughout the day - the most important topic was, of course, the upcoming European elections on 9 June. "I was very pleased about the lively exchange and the many exciting conversations at the EU stand. It is crucial for me to inform people about the importance of the European Union for everyone and to encourage citizens to vote. If you don't vote, you leave the decision to others," explained Ms Becker.
