BELC member from Bretten initiated joint breakfast to introduce first-time voters to the upcoming European elections

Wolfgang Lübeck, BELC member from the town of Bretten in Germany, in cooperation with Hannes Lauter from the EUROPE DIRECT Centre in Karlsruhe and the city administration of Bretten, initiated a breakfast for young people in the sports centre of Bretten. The aim of the "Breakfast with the EU" event was to explain the importance of the European elections to all first-time voters in Bretten and to encourage them to find out about the EU, participate in European programmes and thus promote European integration and cooperation.

The event was moderated by Hannes Lauter, Speaker at the Europe Direct in Karlsruhe, who interested young people with an entertaining interactive quiz on EU topics. He also led the concluding discussion with Department President of the Regional Council, Markus Thomas; Julia Tief from the European Commission and Bretten Youth Councillor, Simon Merl. In addition to the large number of 600 young people, other local representatives, such as Lord Mayor Martin Wolff and Mayor Michael Nöltner, as well as city councillors, also took part and contributed to the great success of the event.

‘Your commitment is crucial for the future of Europe,’ emphasized Wolfgang Lübeck after the breakfast, stressing how important it is to get the young generation excited about European projects and initiatives.
