Countering disinformation and related digital competencies were on the agenda at a workshop organised by BELC partner municipality Minsk Mazowiecki and the local branch of Europe Direct in January 2024. Participants included young people from the European Parliament Ambassador School, ZS1 in Minsk Mazowiecki, as well as teachers from local elementary and secondary schools within Europe Direct Minsk Mazowiecki’s coverage area.
Topics in the training included characterising disinformation and how to recognise it, how to fact-check, how social media algorithms work, and how to maintain one’s own online security.
How to effectively communicate such knowledge to students was also emphasised, with trainees receiving useful tips. Organised in cooperation with the Geremek Foundation and the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation, the workshop was led by educator and communication specialist Filip Szulik Szarecki, who manages the fact-checking project, Keyboard Warriors.
