BELC partner municipality of Polygyros informs youth of opportunities ahead of European elections

On May 14, the Municipality of Polygyros, in cooperation with Europe Direct Thessaloniki, held an informative event at the Municipal Theatre. Students from the General Secondary School and the Vocational High School of Polygyros, as well as other young people, attended to learn about all the opportunities available to them through the European Union's free programmes for education, training, volunteering, work and leisure.

Mayor of Polygyros and BELC member Mr. Georgios Emmanouil inaugurated the event, and representatives of Europe Direct Thessaloniki, Olia Panagiotopoulou and Katerina Omouridou, were on hand to discuss the details of specific programmes.

The event was held within the framework of the European network BELC (Building Europe with Local Councillors), of which the Municipality of Polygyros is a partner. The BELC network of locally elected politicians strives to communicate EU-related issues to their constituents, boost engagement, and foster public dialogue. They also encourage the public to actively participate in the upcoming elections for their representatives to the European Parliament.

"Our municipality is taking small but steady steps towards Europe, as extroversion is an important issue for the development of the country. Europe gives many tools, especially to young people, to enable them to cultivate and develop their skills. It also offers good practices, which we can adopt and implement in our country. Our goal is to take the best from Europe and then return and strengthen our country", said Mr. Emmanouil at the event. He addressed young people about the European elections in June, saying that they must consider themselves "to be citizens of Polygyros forever and at the same time active European citizens".
