Building tomorrow's Europe: educational projects and sustainability in focus in Italy

At a crucial time for the future of Europe, Arianna Giovannini, a member of the BELC network in the municipality of Scheggino, in the region or Umbria, has undertaken a series of innovative initiatives to promote active participation in the upcoming European elections. In these efforts she highlighted the importance of active citizenship and commitment for a common European future.

April was the month of European awareness for high school students. The "EUROPE X US" initiative, with support from Europe Direct Umbria, was a series of meetings aimed to enlighten young people on the importance of the European vote and how their inclusion is crucial in the European circuit. The initiative saw the direct involvement of five institutes located in various municipalities of the Umbria region, allowing a constructive dialogue and informing young people of the opportunities and responsibilities that derive from European citizenship.

A conference on the environment and nature was organised to shed light on European initiatives and directives in terms of sustainability and to re-establish an informed conversation while addressing concerns and doubts that have emerged in Umbria.

Recognising the importance of instilling the values of respect and equality for all, from an early age, a dedicated project was launched in pre-schools. Discussions were organised on the topic of voting in Europe. This initiative is fundamental for building a base of aware and respectful citizens, capable of contributing positively to European society and democracy.

These initiatives represent a concrete commitment towards the promotion of an active and informed European citizenship.
