Spanish BELC partner Castelldefels turned blue on May 9th with the city's emblematic Castle and the letters of Castelldefels in Plaza de las Palmeras adorned with the European flag. The municipality joined an initiative involving over sixty cities across Europe, including landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, Madrid's Plaza de Cibeles, the Roman Colosseum, and Brussels' Grand Place.
The Europe Day celebration was part of the activities for the Senior Citizens’ Week. The day began with the 5th Castelldefels City Nordic Walking March for seniors, with a hundred people walking a 7 km route, followed by a light refreshment. BELC local councillor, Marian Ortega participated in the institutional event that featured the European anthem, readings, and musical performances.
Additionally, a bench in Plaça Catalunya was painted in the European flag's colors by the local youth creators' association AVIVA, symbolizing community and social gathering. The celebration also included a display of European literature and cinema at the Ramon Fernàndez Jurado Library and various activities by local schools.
