Greek BELC member initiates beach clean-up event

BELC partner municipality of Argos-Mycenae in the Peloponnese of Greece successfully concluded its series of recycling and environmental awareness events, titled ‘Argos in Green - Blue Action’. The main event was organised on the 6th October, 2024, in collaboration with EUROPE DIRECT Peloponnese, A C Laskaridis Charitable Foundation, as well as various recycling organisations.

BELC member Argyropoulou Anastasia, Deputy Mayor, in charge of the recycling and environmental innovation portfolio at the Municipality of Argos-Mycenae, played a key role in the implementation of this event, leading the clean-up action around the coastal area in Timenio, where citizens also took part.

This effort was part of Argos-Mycenae’s participation in the European Beach Clean Up campaign, an annual global initiative co-organised by the EU and the United Nations, aiming to keep beaches, coasts, rivers clean, protecting marine life and oceans, as well as promoting biodiversity restoration. The awareness-raising educational events were attended by more than 800 people, students in the morning hours and a large number of citizens in the afternoon.

Media also covered the event:
