First-time voters take interactive quiz to learn about democracy and European elections

A discussion session with youth was held in Molėtai’s Family Services Centre on 17 May, 2024, to talk about the upcoming European elections. This initiative was organised and moderated by Žydrūnė Vaidachovičienė, a member of the BELC network and the council Molėtai municipality.

The event was attended by around 15 underprivileged first-time voters, i.e. young people, who receive foster care services, have family problems or live in rural areas. During the event, Ms. Vaidachovičienė introduced BELC, as she was inspired to organise this initiative for youth, following a recent visit to Brussels with other Lithuanian BELC councillors.

She highlighted key milestones and important dates in Lithuania's journey as a member of the EU. The local councillor also conducted an interactive quiz with questions and answers about the European Union to enhance young people’s knowledge. Additionally, she showed a video to increase participants’ interest in democracy, European values, and the importance of voting. The discussion allowed participants to express their opinion and debate the key issues concerning elections and civic engagement.
