Lithuanian BELC partner municipality teamed up with EUROPE DIRECT centre for cybersecurity conference

The conference ‘Europe's Digital Decade – Cybersecurity’ was held on 22 April, 2024 in the council chamber of Klaipėda City, a BELC partner municipality. The event gathered around 30 experts and public representatives to discuss the most pressing cybersecurity challenges and European strategies in this field. The conference was organised by Algimantas Šniepis, a member of the Klaipėda City Council, in collaboration with EUROPE DIRECT Klaipėda and the European Commission's Representation in Lithuania.

The high-level gathering featured cybersecurity expert Marius Pareščius and Members of Parliament, including Aurelijus Veryga, Dainius Gaižauskas, Giedrius Surplys, Aušrinė Norkienė, Robertas Šarnickas, Ligita Girskienė, Dainius Kepenis, and Stasys Tumėnas. Key highlights of the conference were discussions on Europe's response to cybersecurity threats, the security issues surrounding Lithuania's general preparedness for online voting, and cyber warfare.

Participants received insights and shared experiences from various sectors, discussing their encounters with cybersecurity challenges. The talks were moderated by Ligita Girskienė, member of the Lithuanian Parliament. The event not only provided new knowledge to the attendees, but also encouraged active participation in shaping a safer digital future for Europe.
