In Voiron, a French BELC partner raising awareness of European citizenship through sport

BELC member Chokri Badreddine, local councillor of the town of Voiron (who is the second person from the left in the picture) decided to raise awareness of the European elections through football

A football tournament to raise young people's awareness of Europe and the importance of voting: that's what Chokri Badreddine, BELC member and local councillor for the town of Voiron from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, decided to organise a month before the European elections. On 9 May, 2024, 120 young people aged 16 and over from the local community and neighbouring towns got together to play football in a friendly competition.

At the same time, a BELC stand was set up to welcome young people, talk to them, explain certain provisions aimed at them and answer their many questions, because, as Mr Badreddine said, ‘young people are not just about the future, they are also the present!’

The winning team will have the privilege of visiting one of the European institutions in Brussels
